Indigenous Led Circle Offers Mental Health and Addiction Support
Overview:
Healing Drum Circle part of Programming welcomes all battling with mental health and addicition
There is a COINS, Circle of Indigenous Nations Society, an Aboriginal community service agency thats probably been going maybe five years. They have come out to Salmo and do regular programing and one of them is an Aboriginal family gathering so they provide a meal and some cultural teachings or crafts. But in addition to that, they call it a healing drum circle and it is for people with mental health and addictions. It was out of our agency and I think now its moved to a community. The Zen Den. I dont know how well its attended. So thats a different approach...No [it's not just for Indigenous community members], its supposed to be open so anyone dealing with a mental health or addiction issue, um, but music is always healing and drumming in particular.
