Indigenous Led Circle Offers Mental Health and Addiction Support

There is a COINS, Circle of Indigenous Nations Society, an Aboriginal community service agency that’s probably been going maybe five years. They have come out to Salmo and do regular programing and one of them is an Aboriginal family gathering so they provide a meal and some cultural teachings or crafts. But in addition to that, they call it a healing drum circle and it is for people with mental health and addictions. It was out of our agency and I think now it’s moved to a community. The Zen Den. I don’t know how well it’s attended. So that’s a different approach...No [it's not just for Indigenous community members], it’s supposed to be open so anyone dealing with a mental health or addiction issue, um, but music is always healing and drumming in particular.
