Building Local Connections to Address Youth Mental Health Service Gaps
Overview:
A local Nurse Practitioner builds connections with other health professionals and schools to increase mental health service access for youth.
Youth is my thing so [I am] connecting with the school a lot. I work with at the youth clinic [and] I go once a week. I connect with [Person X] who is [a] child youth mental health specialist and then we were [connecting with] [Person Y] who was a public health nurse and we would meet every Wednesday and we would have a just a drop in walk in clinic for youth so anywhere between [ages] 12 and 26 and they would come over from the schools...the local action team for mental health just trying to get different services going. So just being a part of those committees, they got my name [out there] so now I’m getting referrals from the school district.
