Fraser Health subsidizes BC Transit in Hope by $25,000 a year

Last week we had the BC Transit open forum for public comment at the rec centre for people to come and comment and they do that yearly or bi-annually and we obviously take part in that. So, we track that very carefully because we, as a district, we pay for transit with the region and we want to make sure that demand reaches, you know, agrees with ridership and requirements so those will be adjusted over time. Right now, we don’t have a lot of coverage, we don’t have 7 day or 24 hours, it’s just portions of the day; some in the morning, some at night to assist with working and appointments. That was identified in the Fraser Health study as far as demographics and characteristics of populations. So, in fact, I managed to get agreement…every year Fraser Health subsidizes BC Transit in Hope by $25,000 a year. So, I have a health authority working directly with us to do that...it’s a general subsidy to establish it because it’s seen as addressing a lot of health outcomes like going to appointments, connectedness…you know, physical activity, etc.
