Longstanding Tradition of Community Fundraising Overcomes Local Healthcare and Housing Challenges
Overview:
Community’s geographic isolation leads to self-sufficiency in raising funds for local hospital and seniors housing
This, for your reference, can be offered to you, the sections of our OCP [Official Community Plan]. I would suggest that 'Community X' has a long tradition of being able to mobilize around fundraising for community facilities, beginning with our hospital in the early 1950s and seniors housing, these long-term seniors care housing. These were major community fundraising initiatives that, to a greater or lesser extent, had support from the province and other agencies. But I think that we had…it probably goes back to the time when we were rather isolated, having no road to the Lower Mainland and only connected by water. We had to make do. And from my perspective, I’ve lived here nearly all my life, is that 'Community X' seems to be able to muster itself for these fundraising challenges for facilities, and health care has always been at the front of those priorities.
